A lot of what's being aimed at Jews and at Israel this morning is on paper. A Thai nationality act, a French exhibitor's rulebook, a House sanctions bill, and a PAC ad about the price of eggs. You don't need a weapon for any of it. Israel's own moves came in uniform.
Flash Brief: The Day in 90 Seconds or Less
Iran: Israel plans for a longer Iran campaign than the roughly three days of strikes American officials describe. See The War Today.
Hormuz: Rubio says US forces shoot down a drone or missile aimed at a ship every other day. See Briefly Noted.
Gaza: Southern Command prepares to take Gaza City, and the IDF says a Nuseirat strike killed a Hamas hostage guard. See The War Today.
The speaker: Eisenkot's bloc plans to unseat Speaker Amir Ohana of Likud when the new Knesset is sworn in on 10 November. See Inside Israel.
The draft: Haredi combat-support recruits report to Tel Hashomer this morning past a crowd calling the police "Nazis." See Inside Israel.
Euronaval: France lets Israeli firms show only air and missile defense at Euronaval, and keeps Israel's government out entirely. See Israel and the World.
Winter: Israeli intelligence says Hamas plans a winter campaign of flooded-tent pictures, and COGAT counts over 85,000 tents sent in. See Israel and the World.
Michigan: Haley Stevens says Abdul El-Sayed, Michigan's Democratic Senate nominee, owes an apology for blaming Israel for what Michigan can't afford. See Israel and the World.
Thailand: Thailand strips Chabad's Rabbi Yosef Chaim Kantor of his citizenship, and a Phuket rally demands all seven Chabad Houses close. See Briefly Noted.
Britain: Iran puts Britain's Royal Air Force and Royal Navy on its terrorist list, by Mehr's account. See Developments to Watch.
Underneath a lot of today is an argument about who gets to decide what Israel does next. Hamas is counting on a winter's worth of photographs to get a say, and it's had one before. Inside Israel the question is narrower, and the law's already answered it: until the Knesset seats somebody else, the cabinet that's sitting decides.
